Last Saturday 14th of January, it has taken place in GONDAN’s facilities in Figueras, Castropol, the sponsoring ceremony of Edda Boreas, Commissioning Service Operation Vessel, for the Norwegian shipowner Edda Wind ASA. In this event, GONDAN has had the pleasure to count with the presence of representatives of the management of the shipowner Edda Wind and its board of directors, and of Østensjø Rederi A/S, as well as representatives of the energy company for which the vessel will operate, SSE, among others. The godmother was Maria Vevang.

The vessel, designed by Salt Ship Design, has a length of 88.3 m and a beam of 19.7 m, is equipped with zero-emission technology and is supported with funding from the Norwegian government through Enova SF.  Accommodating 120 people – 97 technicians and 23 crew – the vessel will support SSE during its operation of the Dogger Bank wind farm, the world’s largest wind farm with a capacity of 3.6 GW, located 130 km off the northeast coast of England. It will be equipped with state-of-the-art automated equipment, including a 3D Motion Compensated Crane and a motion compensated gangway with a maximum range of 28 meters for personnel transfer,  an integrated elevator with capacity up to 26 persons and a 21m helideck.

Yesterday, Edda Boreas left the Eo estuary for the Port of Gijón, where she will remain for the next few weeks to complete her sea trials programme.
