DUX and ECOAQUA finalists in a Vessel Contest

Dux and Ecoaqua, built by GONDAN, are part of the four finalist vessels in a contest looking for the Outstanding Vessel  in 2017  (Buque destacado 2017) organized by the Association of Naval and Oceanic Engineers of Spain (Asociación de Ingenieros Navales y Oceánicos de España: AINE).

DUX was the first dual-fuel escort tug – of a series of three – built in Europe. It was delivered to the Norwegian shipowner Østensjø Rederi A / S in May last year.

Designed by the Canadian company Robert Allan Ltd, with 40.2 meters length and 16 meters beam, the tug operates for the Norwegian state-owned energy company Statoil, at the far-north terminal located at Melkøya, under severe weather conditions. Recently it has also been named “Tug of the year” by the trade magazine Tug Technology and Business and has been the cover of this and other prestigious publications of the sector such as International Tug & OSV.

EcoAqua is the first of the four GRP eco-fast ferries that GONDAN is building for Baleària. It was delivered to its shipowner at the end of 2017. With 28m length, it has capacity for 350 passengers. It stands out for its comfort, speed and reliability during navigation, as well as the incorporation of photovoltaic solar panels, which provide the necessary energy for on-board services.

We encourage all those interested in knowing and supporting the nominations of these vessels to go to the following link: https://www.ingenierosnavales.com/votacion. The vote on AINE’s website will be open to the public until June 23.
